Though the last refrains were pleading for the future, it is 'A soldier's life', which was expressed in the first few lines. If you saw 'Jarhead' with Jamie Fox (http://lnk.ms/dqlf7), it showed how fragile and vulnerabe relationships can be when the soldier is away: Jody RECEIVES your gal, so dearly thought of by the romantic of service to others and country.. (Being on the Jacobin-Trotsky Left, my drafting in '72 and resulting service until 2005 gave me a deep appreciation for what to swear allegiance for and to whom to give personal allegiance).
ReplyDeleteThe moment, though so abused by the cynical and false, is also that exquisite expression of evolved conditions to that acute moment. Though others approach reality through unquestioned myths, and then do not question the myth with which they entered the situation, but the bad results and it contributing factors, it does not negate the reality of the delusional logic which led them to that irresistible regret of later..
